Hundreds Helped in Fifth Project Connect Partnership in Mesa

Valley of the Sun United Way and Mesa United Way will join together for the fifth Project Connect event held in the City of Mesa since 2009 in an effort to prevent and end homelessness in the community.

Since 2008, thousands of individuals and families Valley-wide have been reached with services at the one-stop-shop events which are aimed at helping the community gain their independence and pride as quickly as possible. While Valley of the Sun United Way is proud of the lives our partners and volunteers have helped us impact in a positive way, there is more work to do in our community objective – and commitment – to end homelessness.

“Mesa United Way and the City of Mesa have been strong partners aligned with our community objective to prevent and end homelessness in Maricopa County,” said Amy Schwabenlender, vice president of community impact with Valley of the Sun United Way. “It is important our community continue to make the gains on this effort to end homelessness,– a goal we know we can achieve together.”

How: To sign up, visit www.vsuw.org/projectconnect or contact us at volunteer@vsuw.org.

When:  Thursday, April 11
Volunteer Time:   Morning and afternoon shifts between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
   Open to the Public:  8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Why:  Homelessness impacts our entire community, with thousands of individuals experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County on any given day, and many at risk after experiencing a job loss, medical crisis or foreclosure.  Many people who experience or are at risk of homelessness are veterans or families with children.  Project Connect is a big part of a regional solution to end homelessness. It is a national model which transforms individual lives and the community as a whole.
