United Way Announces New Board Chair, Board Members
Valley of the Sun United Way welcomes Pamela Conboy, Lead Regional President of Wells Fargo, as its new Board Chair and three new Board members: Armando Roman, Founder and Managing Principal of AXIOM Financial Advisory Group; Mark Schiavoni, Executive Vice President of Operations at APS; and Tom Simplot, District 4 City of Phoenix Councilman.
As Board Chair, Conboy will work alongside fellow Board Members and guide United Way to achieve its three Community Objectives: 1) Ensure Children and Youth Succeed; 2) End Hunger and Homelessness; and, 3) Increase Financial Stability of Families and Individuals.
Conboy replaces Arizona Diamondbacks President and CEO Derrick Hall, whose two-year term as Chair expired June 30. Hall remains a member of the Board of Directors and co-chairs United Way’s Ending Hunger Advisory Council.
“I am thrilled to chair the Valley of the Sun United Way board. We all share the same aspirations of a good education for our children, a safe place to live, food on the table and the security that comes with financial independence,” Conboy said. “United Way brings together the expertise, compassion and support to build a stronger community for us all to live, raise a family and run a business.”
“Our new Board Chair and Members bring a wealth of knowledge to lead United Way in achieving key Community Objectives to transform lives in the Valley,” said Merl Waschler, Valley of the Sun United Way President and CEO. “We appreciate and value the countless hours they will dedicate to build a stronger community for Maricopa County.”
Conboy has served on Valley of the Sun United Way’s Board of Directors since June 2007, and is also a key champion of United Way’s Women’s Leadership Council. She served as United Way’s 2012-13 Campaign Chair.
The new board members have also been United Way champions: Roman served on United Way’s Finance and Audit Committee; Schiavoni as a co-chair of United Way’s Loaned Executive program; and Simplot as a lead advocate for United Way’s efforts to develop permanent supportive housing in the Valley.
