Project Connect Comes to El Mirage in the New Year

Families and individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness can get a head start on important life-changing resolutions at Valley of the Sun United Way’s first Project Connect event to be held in El Mirage.  United Way is holding the January 10 event to reach out to the West Valley community and connect the area to services that may otherwise be difficult to access in a one-stop-shop environment, as part of our community objective to end and prevent homelessness in Maricopa County.

At the Project Connect to be held at Dysart Community Center, volunteers will guide attendees through more than 30 human service providers with key resources to help reach goals of independence and financial stability in the New Year. Services will support short- and long-term needs, including new photo IDs, clothes, showers and haircuts, wellness checks, housing and shelter options, and employment.  Project Connects are held monthly throughout the Valley to bring together of the most vital resources for those who need them most. Learn more at www.vsuw.org/projectconnect.

When:  Thursday, January 10
        Open to the Public:  8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
        Best Media Interview Times: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Where:  Dysart Community Center, 14414 N. El Mirage Road, El Mirage

Why:  Homelessness impacts our entire community, with thousands of individuals experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County on any given day, and many at risk after experiencing a job loss, medical expense or foreclosure.  Many people who experience or are at risk of homelessness are veterans or families with children.  Project Connect is a big part of a regional solution to end homelessness. It is a national model which changes individual lives and the community as a whole.
